Women’s Health on Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Pregnancy can be one of the most exciting events in a woman’s life, but it can also be accompanied by unwanted symptoms. There’s no need, however, to just chalk it up to being pregnant when relief is possible.

Pelvic floor physical therapists address the musculoskeletal components of pregnancy in order to stay active, as well as address postpartum issues. Common symptoms include incontinence, lower back pain, hip or groin pain, and sciatica. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help with preparing for labor and delivery through pelvic muscle relaxation, stretching, and learning the best positions to help ease the pain. Pelvic floor PT can also help you rebuild your strength and confidence in your body postpartum to safely return to the activities you love.

Our Pelvic Floor PT helps Erin learn how to manage pressure when lifting. She explains the importance of bracing through the core and demonstrates how to safely modify it to keep lifting during pregnancy.

Our Pelvic Floor PT demonstrates side by side how to do this exercise and provides encouragement.

“I can’t say enough about my experience starting Pelvic PT … I happened to stumble across ‘pelvic PT for pregnancy’ and wasn’t exactly sure what it meant but I wanted to give it a try. Becoming a soon first-time mom, I was unaware of how to support my body through all the changes, and [my PT] has helped guide me through every chapter.”

This yoga block exercise that Erin is doing helps improve hip stability to maintain support as your pregnant belly grows.
“I’ve been able to learn how to balance moving my body in a way that feels good while going through all three trimesters of my pregnancy. I would absolutely be lost without the guidance, support, and teaching that [my PT] has provided.
